How is an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament diagnosed?

During a physical examination, your doctor will check for signs of swelling, instability and reduced movement. A type of scan called magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is commonly used to confirm the diagnosis, assess the grade of the injury and check for additional knee injuries.
