Who gets acne?

The following factors increase the likelihood of developing acne: Age - being between 13 and 16 years old; Hormonal changes, particularly during the teenage years, pregnancy or menstruation; Taking certain hormone-based medications, such as corticosteroids, testosterone, anabolic steroids and some contraceptives; Taking certain other medications such as, phenytoin, lithium, isoniazid and iodine; Exposure to oily skin or hair products; A family history of acne; Frequent rubbing or friction on the skin, particularly from tight clothing, hats or helmets, and; Humidity or heavy sweating.
